Aqua Group’s range of R290 Hydrocarbon Propane chillers offer cooling capacities from 20kW to 210kW. With our hydrocarbon units you benefit from the latest chiller technology but with the knowledge that it’s utilising an eco-friendly refrigerant.

The R290 (propane) refrigerant used in our chiller range is 100% natural and has an extremely low GWP (Global Warming Potential) of just 3.

In comparison, commonly used refrigerants such as R134a and R410A have GWP’s of 1300 and 1980 respectively. R290 also has a zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential), making it completely non-toxic.

Full Turnkey Solutions

Aqua’s aim is to build a life-long relationship with our customers, becoming essentially a “one stop shop” for all your temperature control requirements, for now and the future. The three divisions of our business – Sales, Hire & Service – enable us to help clients every step of the way.

Our USP is our ability to offer clients a complete turnkey solution. We’ll work with you from initial site visit and system design to installation and commissioning. Our services include:

  • Free design consultancy, including AutoCAD drawings, 3D modelling and energy calculations
  • Mechanical and electrical installation – encompassing civil works, offloading & positioning, pipework installation, mains power and cabling, all CDM compliance, full project management and delivery
  • Aftersales support – including preventive maintenance plans to maximise product lifespan and efficiency

Our business is built on our core values of technical excellence, care, integrity and a “can do” attitude. We train all our people to be specialists in what they do – innovative engineers dedicated to providing practical, effective and efficient solutions supported by second-to-none customer service.

Case Study

Propane Chillers Future Proof Dairy

Propane chiller technology has ensured a dairy plant in the North of England is not only highly energy efficient but also extremely environmentally friendly. Our client provides goats’ milk to supermarkets across the UK as well as processing the raw milk into a range of products, including yoghurt, cheese, butter and cream. When Aqua were commissioned to design a replacement cooling system for their dairy processing facility, future proofing the dairy for the years ahead was a key driver in the decision-making process. This, coupled with the current phase-out of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), led to R290 propane being their refrigerant of choice.

New F-Gas regulations came into effect initially in 2015, designed to control emissions from fluorinated greenhouse gasses (F-gases), including HFCs. The EU’s overall aim is to cut F-gas emissions by two-thirds by 2030, when compared with 2014 levels. By 2020 the use of virgin HFC refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of above 2500 will be banned. This includes previously mainstream refrigerants such as R-404A and R-434A. Aqua can supply a range of chillers that run on the refrigerant grade propane, R290. Propane refrigerant is 100% natural, has excellent thermodynamic performance, is non-toxic, has a GWP of just 3 and a zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP)…. Read More

If you are looking for ammonia chillers, because of energy/toxicity concerns then our R290 propane chillers would be a good alternative.

Additionally, R290 refrigerant has very favourable thermodynamic characteristics which gives a high level of efficiency as well as the obvious environmental advantages and all at a competitive price point.

Projects In Line With BREEAM

For clients working on projects in line with BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) guidelines, our propane refrigerant chiller range is ideal. BREEAM’s assessment method and systems set best practice for measuring the environmental performance of a building and trying to keep its energy requirements to a minimum. To this end, chiller and industrial refrigeration systems that are working on a 100% natural resource as refrigeration are a perfect solution.
